Ayaan and Idyl Mohallim Present: Mataano
Diaspora. Born in the United States, and reared in Somalia, identical twins Ayaan and Idyl Mohallim are now making a name for themselves in the fashion world. Having fled their native land due to civil unrest, the duo attended college here (Boston University and University of Michigan), and hit the ground running in New York, launching their line, Mataano (which means “twin” in their native tongue) in 2008. Already gaining national exposure, with an appearance on the Oprah Winfrey Show, and features in national publications including The New York Times and Essence Magazine, these African sisters are poised on the precipice of fashion success!

Miss Angola 2012, Marcelina Vahekeni
A candidata da província do Cunene, Marcelina Vahekeni, foi eleita, sábado, miss Angola/2012, durante a gala que teve lugar no Centro de Conferências de Belas.
Vahekeny substitui, deste modo, Leila Lopes, miss Angola e Universo2011, de quem recebeu a coroa.
Vinte e quatro candidatas “lutaram” pela coroa de Miss Angola 2012, entre as quais seis são residentes na diáspora, Portugal, África do Sul, Namíbia, Canadá, Reino Unido e Benelux.
A gala foi prestigiada pela presença do Presidente da República, José Eduardo dos Santos, acompanhado da primeira-dama, Ana Paula dos Santos.
Marcelina Vahekeni, estudante do curso de gestão de recursos humanos, vai representar o país no concurso de miss Universo 2012.

Designers Africanos brilham no Mercedes Benz NYFW
Mercedes Benz Fashion Week de Nova York (NYFW) aguarda ansiosamente Made in Africa, ARISE Primavera 2012 da revista Designer Colectiva. É a quarta temporada na NYFW e promete ser o maior e melhor show jamais visto.
Sete dos mais inovadores designers de moda da África terão o centro do palco. O Sul-Africano duo Malcolm Kluk e Christiaan Gabriel Du Toit, mais conhecido como Kluk CGTD, tem uma clientela de celebridades, incluindo Beyoncé, Charlize Theron e Rachel Weisz, uma vez que uniram forças em 2003.
Com sede em Londres Nigéria Bunmi Koko aka Bunmi Olaye e Francis Udom, lançado em 2009 na London Fashion Week, fez a sua estréia em Lagos AMFW e, agora, traz os seus projectos ferozmente femininos a Nova York de cortesia ARISE. A coleção, Allure of the Sirens, olha para o capricho do mar e a natureza sedutora das sereias da mitologia grega para criar peças suaves e altamente estruturada em uma palete aquática para aqueles que se atrevem a vestir.
Pierre-Antoine Vettorello aperfeiçoou as suas habilidades em Balenciaga e Lagerfeld antes de lançar oficialmente lanças a sua colecção com o mesmo nome neste ano. O francês / Ivoiriense ganhou o prêmio Design Inovador em AMFW. A sua nova coleção tem mordida, literalmente, com chapéus e decotes com fileiras de dentes.
Tsemaye Binitie trabalhou com Stella McCartney antes de estrear a sua marca em 2009. Nascida na Nigéria , a designer é conhecida por abraçar roupa ao corpo com um toque glamoroso, consciente, mas sua última oferta, Beautiful People, joga com linhas mais suaves e temas desportivo, pela primeira vez.
Jewel by Lisa faz a sua segunda aparição no NYFW para ARISE revista no show desta temporada. A linha, fundada por Lisa Folawiyo, mais conhecida pelos seus tecidos Ankara intricadamente decorados e pelos seus têxteis n evolui ainda mais nesta temporada...

Leila Luliana da Costa Vieira Lopes (born February 26, 1986) is an Angolan beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss Angola 2011 and later Miss Universe 2011.
Leila Lopes was born in Benguela, Angola. Lopes was a business management student in Great Britain, where she was crowned Miss Angola UK on October 8, 2010, as the official representative of the Angolan community in the United Kingdom to the Miss Angola 2011 event, which took place two months later in Luanda.
Miss Angola UK - she won this on October 8, 2010, gaining the right to take part in the Miss Angola 2011 elections, but the victory caused protests within the Angolan community in Britain, due to the fact that she was not a resident of the UK and thus, not eligible.

Miss Universe 2011 - in São Paulo, Brazil on September 12, 2011. She became the first Angolan Miss Universe and the 60th titleholder. Lopes received the title from the former Miss Universe titleholder, Ximena Navarrete of Mexico.[8] Lopes is the fourth African to win the title since the beginning of the worldwide pageant (South Africa, 1978; Namibia, 1992; Botswana, 1999; and Angola, 2011) and the second African of African descent to win following Mpule Kwelagobe, Miss Universe 1999 from Botswana. Lopes also became the first woman from Angola to win a "Big four" beauty pageant, and the first black African woman to win Miss Universe in the new millenium.
